Portable home use solar dryer

 
Purpose For drying fruits, vegetables, meat, fishfor home use or for the local market.
Capacity It can dry 5 kg of freshly sliced pineapples, papayas, mangoes, meat, fish and other agricultural products in 2 to 3 days depending on the weather conditions.
Target client Small processors and household use
Advantage It has two trays, one over the other, which can be rotated to accelerate the drying process.
Easy to construct using locally available materials such as plywood for bottom, pinewood for the walls, plastic screen tray and PVC sheet for the cover.
It can be stowed away when not in use.
Suitable for beginners in solar drying technology.
Produces hygienically dried products.
Occupies a very small space.
Disadvantage Limited capacity for commerical purposes.
Cost Complete solar dryer: US$ 50.
Market potential / Status Over a dozen units have been bought by city housewives and small scale farm levels in Uganda
