FOODNET was launched in 1999 as an
ASARECA
post harvest and market research network for East and
Central Africa implemented by IITA. In addition, however,
Foodnet has been implementing, backstopping and
collaborating on many other post harvest and marketing
information projects and programmes funded outside the main ASARECA
framework by a consortia of donors including, USAID (ACDI-VOCA),
GOU (NAADS, MAAIF). Other organisations that have
supported FOODNET include CTA, RELMA
NRI.
FOODNET mainly focuses on agricultural value chain
analyses, market studies, market and marketing information
services, agro collective enterprise development, and
related business development support services aimed to
facilitate linking agricultural producers, who are mainly
smallholders to markets
FOODNET works with both public and private partners and is
currently implementing Uganda’s Livestock Market Services
(LiMIS) supported by Ministry
of
Agriculture
Animal
Industry
and
Fisheries(MAAIF)
while also collaborating with
FarmGain Africa Ltd to disseminate crop price information.
