Linkages
Linkages are essential for effective identification of constraints
to agricultural productivity, technology development and
transfer. The network facilitates the participatory research/diagnostic
approach to identify production and marketing problems and
the discussion of possible solutions together with farmers
and other stakeholders.
Improved mechanisms for reaching farmers, consumers and
other users of improved technologies through PRA, on-farm
research and liaisons with extension and development institutions
will be strengthened.
The network will continue to seek avenues for increased
linkages between research and development.
For instance, the formation of stakeholders' groups in each
member country which addresses the demand of clients related
to potato/sweetpotato technology and product chains issues,
will strongly enhance client and market driven agenda.
The
network gives specific attention to linkages between the
producer and the markets and encourages complementary
activities supported by others (regional programs and
networks, NGO's, Universities, extension services, farmer
associations, private sector, etc).
Under
ASARECA's umbrella, PRAPACE strengthens vertical linkages
with commodity networks (EARRNET, ECABREN, etc) in areas
of training and methodology development.
Horizontal linkages for cross-cutting issue such as soil
fertility management of natural resource, policy analysis
and plant quarantine will be strengthened and working
relationship will be developed with AFRENA, AHI and ECAPAPA
where possible.
Historical
linkages with CIP for technical backstopping and among
member national programs will continue to be strengthened
for the full implementation of key activities linked to
product chain for Phase III.
