Value
added through PRAPACE
The network is enhancing the productivity of national programs.
Broadly adopted varieties have been released; common approaches
to disease (e.g bacterial wilt of potato) and pest (e.g
sweetpotato weevil) management have been developed and implemented;
the national programs are collaborating and enhancing each
other's activities and facilities.
As productivity and confidence among member national programs
grows, there will be increasing collaborative research activities
and need for funding from diverse sources, including local
sources, bilateral, regional and multilateral donors.
The network will therefore, build proposals with member
programs to attract additional funding and competitive grants
to support collaborative research activities. The network
will develop a mechanism for connecting the NARS to IARC
(CIP) for backstopping, training and impact assessment.
The network will also ensure that training and sharing of
facilities and results/technologies and feedback is strengthened
to improve services to the farmers.
As the sense of ownership and being stakeholders increase,
the national programs will be able to collaborate with CIP
and other networks with increasing effectiveness through
the network.
